"Champion the end user... one pixel at a time."
Born an artist in Iowa and shaped by his service in the United States Marine Corps, Mike brings a blend of corn-fed Midwest grit and global perspective to every project. Between the intensity of combat and the discipline of daily life, he began designing unit and platoon logos on t-shirts—an unexpected spark that ignited his design path.
After the military, he headed to the Rocky Mountain front range to immerse himself in the creative world, studying at the Colorado Institute of Art and Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design in Denver.
That path eventually carried him west, where he spent two decades in San Francisco & Silicon Valley, evolving alongside the industry and building smarter, more human-centered solutions for Bay Area Tech Giants and Advertising Agencies.
When the screen turns off, Mike is driven by the pull of the horizon. He’s just as at home carving through the South of France on a sport bike as he is navigating the winding backroads of Southeast Asia, chasing the kind of moments you only find when you’re far from the familiar.
Whether he’s exploring mountain passes in his Jeep, chasing coastline on a motorcycle, or disappearing into some wild stretch of some outdoor wilderness.
A full-stack arsenal of design and strategic leadership skills.
From the Department of Defense to Silicon Valley icons, Mike delivers thoughtful, well-crafted solutions no matter the size of the order.
It all started in the early 2000s while working at a startup in the San Francisco Bay Area. The company kept everyone well-fed—lunches, dinners, snacks, the works. Mike had joked that he was sitting all day, stacking calories, and on a fast track to getting fat. His coworkers laughed and nicknamed him "Fatty". So he rolled with his new nickname, even though it was far from accurate.
Around that same time, he was furnishing his 1950s-style kitchen and decided it needed a proper centerpiece— so he had a custom-built diner booth to complete the look. He also wanted a place to showcase his work and experiences, so when it came time to put a site together, the name was obvious. That's how www.fattysdiner.com came to life.
Mike has moved five times and multiple states since then, and the diner booth has moved with him every single time. Some things just earn a permanent spot in his heart.
Fatty's Diner is more than a portfolio—it's a permanent spot for innovation, empathy, and great design.
Fatty's Diner logo and site were crafted in 2000.
From strategy to execution, built with clarity and purpose.
